A high-level meeting was convened today at the office of the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC), bringing together senior leadership from PMDFC, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the World Bank.
From PMDFC, the meeting was attended by Syed Zahid Aziz, Managing Director PMDFC, along with Adnan Nisar (GM Engineering), and Moazzam Jamil, SPO (ID). Representing the European Investment Bank were Marco Arena, Waldemar Jastrzemski, and Peter Szappanos. From the World Bank, Carlo Alberto Amadei, Task Team Lead for the Punjab Inclusive Cities Program (PICP), and Suhaib Rasheed, Senior Urban Specialist, also joined the meeting.
The session served as a follow-up to earlier discussions and further advanced deliberations on a strategic collaboration between PMDFC and EIB, with potential co-financing support from the World Bank, aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure in Punjab. Under this initiative, a proposal is being reviewed to invest USD 100 million in improving sewerage systems, stormwater drainage, and water supply infrastructure in five selected cities across the province.
The discussions focused on developing a joint framework for investment planning, project preparation, and implementation mechanisms under the proposed partnership. The possibility of co-financing was explored in detail, with the shared objective of expanding the reach of WATSAN (Water and Sanitation) infrastructure improvements to additional cities through the World Bank-funded Punjab Inclusive Cities Program (PICP).
