Clean Drinking Water for All

Right to safe and clean drinking water has been recognized at the international as well as national level for adding to the quality of life of the masses. The Government of Pakistan launched the Clean Drinking Water for All’ project in 2004 and since then efforts are underway to install one water purification plant (capacity of plant varies i.e. 2000/4000 liters/hour) in each Union Council of Pakistan. As part of project implementation, the federal government released Rs.3.7 billion to the Government of Punjab in 2009. As a first step, 307 water purification plants have to be installed in four districts of Punjab i.e. Lahore, Kasur, Okara, and Bahawalpur.
For CDWA, PMDFC has been assigned the responsibility of site survey for identification of sites for installation of water filtration plants, supervision of sampling & testing of ground water of identified sites along with progress monitoring and quality assurance.
The cost of the 307 plants was 965 millions. Project started in April 2015 and completed in December 2015. Out of 307 plants, 302 water filtration plants have been installed whichare working effectively. District wise bifurcation of plants is:Lahore-212, Kasur-48, Okara-10 and Bahawalpur-32 plants.
