The Local Government & Community Development Department (LG&CDD) launched the 1st phase of Elimination of Ponds Project in the financial year 2013-14 for the villages having population ten thousand and above. In 1st phase, 74 ponds were eliminated with the total cost of around Rs. 460 Millions. 2nd phase of the project was started in 2014-15 for villages having population five thousand and above. In 2014-15, 74 ponds were eliminated with the total cost of around Rs. 542 million .
2nd phase is continued in ADP 2017-18 for remaining villages having population of five thousand and above. In this phase, from 1st July 2017 to October, 2017, Departmental Development Sub-Committee (DDSC) approved 14 sub-projects from 12 districts with the total cost 158 million rupees.
Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) is providing technical assistance and project supervision for this project. The technical assistance comprises the preparation of GIS based maps for identifying exact location of ponds, points of waste water entry and proposed drainage of waste water. PMDFC is also responsible for the vetting of PC-1s after the verification of the technical feasibility and the financial viability of the sub-project. PMDFC is also facilitating in the topographic survey of the ponds to measure the approximate quantity of waste water and required earth fill to prepare financial estimates of the sub-projects.
