A delegation from Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company, along with representatives from the Local Government and Community Development Department (LG&CDD), Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) and MC Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura joined hands with GIZ to visit the Local Government Elections and Rural Development Department (LGE&RDD) KPK. The purpose of the visit was to facilitate a bilateral exchange of best practices and insights between the two provinces.
Syed Zahid Aziz, MD PMDFC, delivered a presentation to Mr. Daud Khan, Secretary LGE&RDD, and other senior officers of LGE&RDD, shedding light on PMDFC's ongoing initiatives. Mr. Mahmood Masood Tamana, GM ID PMDFC, shared valuable insights from the GIZ-funded initiative "Support to Strengthen the Local Services by Local Governments." Mr. Mohammad Asif, Special Secretary Development, Mr. Sleem Khan Secretary Local Council Board, Mr. Iftikhar Alam - Director General Local Govt. Mr. Hassan Nisar - CEO WSSP also attended the meeting.
As part of the visit, the delegation also had the opportunity to explore the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSCM) and the Integrated Resource Recovery Centre-IRRC, witnessing their operations firsthand. Detailed briefings on WSSCM and IRRC operations were provided to the delegation members, enhancing their understanding of these vital services. The IRRC is a facility to convert organic waste into composte. Members of the delegation opined the need to replicate the initiative in smaller cities of Punjab to fight the challenge of solid waste managment.
