An outreach meeting was held at the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) to advance the innovative HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) lining initiative for sewer pipes under the Chief Minister’s Punjab Cities Development Program. This initiative aims to revolutionize urban sanitation infrastructure across Punjab, ensuring long-term durability and environmental sustainability.
The primary objective of the meeting was to evaluate the readiness and production capacity of firms involved in the HDPE lining of sewer pipes. Representatives from five leading companies provided detailed briefings on their profiles, technical expertise, and operational capabilities, demonstrating strong commitment to the project.
Brigadier (R) Asad Mahmood, Project Director of the Punjab Cities Development Program (PDP), highlighted the transformative impact of this initiative. "In the first phase, HDPE lining will be applied to sewer pipes in 52 cities across Punjab. This modern technology, introduced under the Chief Minister's Punjab Cities Development Program, will extend the lifespan of sewer pipes from 30 years to an impressive 100 years. All pipes with a diameter of 30 inches and above will undergo HDPE lining, with 450 kilometres of concrete HDPE-lined pipes scheduled for installation in the initial stage.
Emphasizing the visionary leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Brig (R) Asad Mahmood stated, "The Chief Minister is according special attention to water and sanitation facilities to enhance the quality of life for citizens. In line with her directives, our priority is to achieve timely completion without compromising on quality standards."
Syed Zahid Aziz, Managing Director, PMDFC, expressed optimism about the project's progress. "The keen interest shown by the companies and their preparedness to commence production within the stipulated timeframe is highly encouraging. Furthermore, HDPE lining will contribute significantly to groundwater conservation and environmental stability, aligning with sustainable development goals."
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Housing Department Umar Farooq, Chief Engineer Qaiser Raza, (DPD) Punjab Cities Development Program Tahir Sroya, General Manager Engineering PMDFC, Adnan Nisar Khan, and (GM IS) Mahmood Masood Tamana.
