Elimination of Ponds from Major Villages (Phase I)

Overview

There are about 26000 villages all over Punjab accommodating more than 45 million people. Most of these villages do not have proper facility of disposal of sewage and storm water. Depressions in and around these villages have become a place of accumulated sewage and storm water consequently breeding mosquitoes and spreading vector diseases. Such a situation has given rise to highly insanitary conditions of living for these villagers which constitute more than 50 % population of whole of the Punjab.

Field Assessment

Local Government and Community Development Department through its field formations has assessed 13, 333 such villages in whole of Punjab. There are about 321 number of ponds with the population of 10, 000 or above, which require an immediate attention of the government. Therefore, a project for the elimination of ponds has been launched by the LG & CD Department.
