A comprehensive training session on environment and social management in municipal service delivery was conducted under the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) with the cooperation of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The training, aimed at strengthening local government services, was attended by key officials including Asia Gul, Special Secretary of the LG&CD Department; Tariq Rahmani, Director General of the Punjab Local Government Board; Parvez Iqbal, Chairman of PMDFC; Qamar Uz Zaman, Member of the Board of Directors; and Sanam Irshad, Advisor on Local Governance from GIZ.
Rizwana Anjum, Senior Program Officer, Environment and Social Management, led the training, imparting crucial knowledge and skills to over 50 local government officers. Syed Zahid Aziz, Managing Director PMDFC, also shared valuable insights on overcoming practical challenges faced by local government officers in developing municipal service delivery projects.
The training session was interactive, featuring group activities designed to equip participants with the practical skills needed to incorporate environmental and social management into municipal services. Participants actively engaged by asking questions about the practical issues they encounter in the field, seeking solutions to enhance their service delivery.
Asia Gul, Special Secretary, LG&CD Department, emphasized the importance of applying the learned skills in the field, utilizing available resources effectively. She also highlighted the need to ensure the safety of sanitary workers while providing high-standard services to citizens.
This training marks a significant step towards improving municipal service delivery through better environmental and social management practices, reflecting the collaborative efforts of PMDFC and GIZ in fostering sustainable development in Punjab.
